Mildred Herzberger
and her husband,
Carl, a career
officer in the U.S.
Army, lived a very
frugal life. They
spent a number of
years stationed in
Germany with their
beloved German
shepherd and a pet
deer. Due to careful
and wise investment,
the Herzbergers were
able to accumulate a
sizeable estate.
Widowed and without
children, Mildred
decided to establish
a scholarship fund
to promote the
education and
welfare of the
residents of
Fairfield County so
that they might
improve the quality
of their lives and
give back to their
community.
